William Ajax letter to William Lewis

Materials include a photocopied letter from William Ajax (Centre, Utah) to William Lewis (Aberdare, Wales), dated March 18, 1893. Ajax writes about Wales, Utah, and the building of the Salt Lake City temple. He says that the fine quality masonry has been built by Welshmen. He also talks about his education, current interests, describes his emmigration from Wales to Utah, and discusses his opinions about Mormonism and religion. Dated March 18, 1893.

Lucian Bedell letter

Handwritten and signed letter, dated October 16, 1853, and addressed to "Dear B." The item was written in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bedell writes about polygamy in Utah and about isolated life in Utah.

The collection contains one personal tax ledger book for Great Salt Lake City during the years 1856-1857, just prior to the Utah War. It contains a record of personal taxes paid, recorded by Ward, and by individuals in the Ward. It includes the records of twenty Wards as well as the Sugar House Ward. The ledger book also includes the names of several early and important members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Brigham Young.

John M. Cannon papers

This collection contains thirty-nine letters written to and by John M. Cannon, a Salt Lake City attorney. There are business letters and personal correspondence. The business letters deal mainly with business: mining, ranching, buying and selling of farm land, closing of bank accounts, etc. The contents of the collection span the years between 1893 and 1914 and are arranged chronologically.

Biographical sketch of William Carter

Typewritten biography. Also included is a typewritten poem by Johnson. William Carter was a Mormon who lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, migrated to Utah in 1847, and lived in Salt Lake City and later in St. George, Utah. He was a polygamist who spent time in the Utah penitentiary for bigamy.

Iliff is contained in the collection.

Patriarchal blessings by Isaac Morley

Handwritten patriarchal blessings both given on 8 Jan. 1849 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were given to Willard G. and Martha Richards McMullin. Morley promises the McMullins that they can receive glory after their deaths by their faithfulness to the Mormon Church while they are alive.

Samuel Hollister Rogers diaries

Rogers writes about his life as a Mormon in Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois. He also tells about his service with the Mormon Battalion, his migration to Utah from California in 1848, his missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his involvement in polygamy. Albert Smith diaries

Photocopies of a handwritten diary and a typescript copy. Smith's materials include an autobiography of his early life in Massachusetts and his experiences with the Mormons in Far West, Missouri. His diary starts in 1842 and includes information on where he lived and his experiences in the Mormon Battalion.
